Solar-powered cars are impractical at scale but this tiny build finds a sweet spot

Simon Sörensen built a compact two-seat solar car from parts taken from two e-bikes, including four hub motors, a steel-tube frame, rooftop panels, and a 48-volt battery.

The lightweight vehicle can top out at about 30 mph and drive roughly 20 miles on solar power alone, with better range when sunlight is strong.

The project shows solar power can meaningfully support small, low-speed vehicles, even if it is not enough to replace conventional full-size cars.

Its limits highlight the challenge of fitting enough panel area and power output onto larger vehicles.
