Unexpected Metal in Rocks on Mars Hints at The Possibility of Ancient Life

NASA's Perseverance rover analyzed 126 sedimentary rocks and eight surfaces in Neretva Vallis.

Researchers found 32 samples with nickel concentrations up to 1.1 percent by weight and detected organic compounds and iron-sulfide minerals.

The mineral assemblage suggests formation in a reducing, water-influenced environment and was reported in Nature Communications.
