Rivian gives its old EV batteries new life in 10 MWh factory storage system

Rivian and Redwood Materials will build a 10 MWh second-life battery storage system at Rivian’s Normal, Illinois plant.

The system will repurpose more than 100 used Rivian battery packs into on-site stationary storage.

Redwood’s energy platform will manage the batteries to provide dispatchable power during peak demand.

The project highlights a faster, lower-cost way to reuse retired EV batteries, cut factory energy costs, and ease grid strain.
