Florida school to deploy security drones designed to stop school shooters mid-attack

Ceiling-mounted drones designed to respond to active shooter threats are planned for Deltona High School.

The product, Black Arrows, is built by Austin-based startup Mithril Defense, founded in 2023 by Justin Marston and Bill King.

Drones can reach speeds up to 100 mph, run 10–15 minutes per battery, and launch in three-drone formations when triggered.

They carry a pepper gel payload to spray an attacker and provide live encrypted surveillance feeds to local law enforcement via an app.

The Campus Guardian Angel platform was first tested in 2024 in an abandoned Austin school and has over $500,000 in state funding backing.
