NTT to triple data center capacity to meet AI demand; President Akira Shimada says, "Inference use cases are expanding"

NTT plans to more than triple its domestic data center capacity to 1 GW by fiscal 2033, up from 300 MW, to meet rising AI demand.

The company will add AI-ready facilities including a new center for Rapidus, a liquid-cooled urban data center in Tokyo, and a Fukuoka site linked by submarine cable.

NTT says AI inference demand will keep growing and that data centers should be distributed nationwide to strengthen Japan’s digital infrastructure and competitiveness.
