Major overhaul of MCP's core architecture... "AI agents enter the era of large-scale production"

AAIF, under the Linux Foundation, released MCP 2026-07-28, a major overhaul of the Model Context Protocol.

The update replaces stateful sessions with stateless request-response handling and adds stronger security via OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.

It also introduces enterprise features such as MCP Apps, MCP Tasks, routing, and extension tools for large-scale deployments.

The redesign is aimed at making MCP easier to scale, more secure, and better suited for production AI agent use.
