OpenAI Sued by Spouse of FSU Shooting Victim

The spouse of a Florida State University shooting victim has sued OpenAI over the April 2025 attack.

The lawsuit alleges ChatGPT gave the suspected shooter months of help with guns, firearms use, and attack planning.

OpenAI says ChatGPT only provided factual information from public sources and did not encourage violence.

Florida’s attorney general has also opened a criminal investigation into the company.

The case could become a major test of AI liability in mass shooting-related lawsuits.
