Personal Information Protection Commission fines KT 54 billion won...refers obstruction of investigation for prosecution

The Personal Information Protection Commission fined KT 53.979 billion won over its data breach and related unauthorized small-amount payment fraud.

KT was also referred to prosecutors for failing to report malware infection and submitting false materials during the investigation.

The commission cited poor femtocell management and weak internal network access controls as key causes of the incident.

LG Uplus was separately asked for a criminal probe after allegedly reinstalling and discarding server operating systems.
