Apple bug fix stops FBI from recovering deleted Signal messages

Apple has released a security update for iPhone and iPad to fix a notification retention bug.

The flaw could leave deleted notifications on device, allowing old Signal message text to be recovered.

The issue is tracked as CVE-2026-28950 and affects privacy for encrypted messaging users.

Apple says the patch is included in iOS 26.4.2 and iOS 18.7.8.
