French government says it's ditching Windows for Linux — country accelerates plans to ditch US-based software in digital sovereignty push

France’s DINUM is shifting from Windows to Linux workstations, with support from other government bodies including DGE, ANSSI, and DAE.

The move is part of a broader digital sovereignty push that includes replacing some U.S.-based collaboration tools with open-source alternatives.

Officials are also planning further migration of government systems, which could reshape public-sector software procurement in France.
