US special ops fields caliber-swapping MK24 rifle for 7.62 combat and 6.5 range

U.S. Special Operations Command has chosen LMT Defense’s MK24 Medium Range Gas Gun Assault to replace the MK17 SCAR.

The rifle uses a quick-change barrel system, letting operators switch between 7.62mm NATO and 6.5mm Creedmoor in about a minute.

SOCOM plans to field the new platform before the fiscal year ends.

The modular design is meant to improve flexibility, logistics, and long-range performance for special operations.
