Huawei's ‘Chip Queen’ Throws Down the Gauntlet

Huawei’s chip arm HiSilicon unveiled “Tau’s Scaling Law,” a new strategy aimed at boosting AI chip performance through faster computation and data movement across chips and systems.

Led by HiSilicon president Tingbo He, the approach shifts focus away from relying mainly on transistor miniaturization, challenging the limits of traditional Moore’s Law scaling.

Huawei says it will demonstrate the method in the coming months and is targeting performance comparable to a 1.4-nanometer process by 2031.

If successful, the strategy could help China narrow its AI chip gap and reduce dependence on advanced lithography under US export controls.
