Japanese-supported compact AI model "LFM2.5-8B-A1B" that also runs on smartphones debuts

Liquid AI released LFM2.5-8B-A1B, an open Mixture-of-Experts model built for efficient on-device AI.

The 8.3B-parameter model uses only 1.5B active parameters and is designed to run on smartphones and other consumer devices.

Liquid says it performs competitively with larger models on benchmarks and improves tokenization across languages, including Japanese.

The model is available in multiple formats, including base, GGUF, ONNX, and MLX, with a demo on Hugging Face.
