As Europe makes the leap to electric cars, it fears total dependence on China. Its solutions are arriving (rather) late

The EU is drafting rules to curb dependence on China in key industries such as autos, machinery and chemicals.

Manufacturers could be required to avoid sourcing more than 30% to 40% of components from a single country.

The move aims to diversify suppliers and reduce the risk of production stops from Chinese restrictions and supply-chain tensions.

The policy would help protect Europe’s industrial output, though it may raise costs and affect trade dynamics.
