Xiaomi Smartphone Shipments Plunge 35% in Q1 2026 as Company Shifts to Profit Protection Mode

Xiaomi’s smartphone shipments fell sharply in Q1 2026, with Omdia estimating 8.7 million units in China, down 35% year over year.

IDC also dropped Xiaomi from China’s top-five vendors, while Counterpoint said its global shipments fell 19%, the worst decline among major brands.

The Redmi A5 still made Counterpoint’s global top 10, but it was not enough to offset broader weakness in Xiaomi’s handset business.

The company appears to be prioritizing profit protection over aggressive share gains, even as rivals such as vivo, OPPO and Honor gain ground.
