Startup Sued After Delivery Bot Clobbers 73-Year-Old Woman

A 73-year-old parking garage attendant, Trudy Perez, has filed a civil lawsuit against Starship Technologies after alleging a delivery robot hit her multiple times in 2023.

Perez says the incident left her with a laceration, back pain, and mobility problems, and she is seeking damages for medical bills, pain and suffering, and lost wages.

Starship disputes liability, arguing her injuries were pre-existing or caused by her own negligence.

The case could help shape how courts assign responsibility for accidents involving autonomous or remotely operated delivery robots in public spaces.
