Google flips the script, reportedly considers putting ads in Gemini app

Google may eventually add ads to Gemini, according to remarks from Alphabet executive Philipp Schindler on the Q1 2026 earnings call.

The company plans to test an ad format in AI Mode first, before deciding whether to bring similar ads into Gemini.

This follows earlier speculation and a prior denial that Gemini had any current ad plans, though Google says it is not rushing the move.

If implemented, ads in Gemini would expand Google’s AI monetization strategy but could change the consumer experience.
