Mazda chief says the MX-5 Miata could go electric

Mazda says the next MX-5 Miata is being developed with a possible all-electric version in mind.

CEO Masahiro Moro says the car will be designed to stay lightweight and preserve its roadster character.

A 2.5-liter Skyactiv-Z gasoline engine and possible hybrid support are still on the table.

Launch timing is reported for 2028 or later, making the Miata a key test for Mazda’s EV future.
