Zoox clears final federal hurdle to launch paid robotaxi service

NHTSA granted Zoox a temporary exemption from eight federal safety standards, allowing it to charge for rides in its custom-built driverless robotaxi.

The approval is limited to 2,500 vehicles per year for two years and comes with added oversight conditions.

Zoox plans to launch first in Las Vegas, then expand as it secures remaining state approvals, including in California.

The decision removes a major federal barrier for Amazon-owned Zoox and marks a key step toward commercial robotaxi service.
