Two Indian automakers just beat Tesla at the one thing you’d expect it to own

ICCT’s 2025 EV efficiency ranking put Tata Motors first and Mahindra second among 22 major automakers, ahead of Tesla and BYD.

Tata’s battery EV fleet averaged 106 Wh/km, while Mahindra averaged 113 Wh/km, showing strong energy efficiency.

The report said global EV efficiency gains have largely stalled, despite these top results from Indian automakers.

Tata still trails on charging speed and driving range, underscoring that efficiency alone does not solve wider EV adoption challenges.
