CERN switches on 312-foot HiLumi LHC test stand for 10x particle collision boost

CERN has begun electrically powering the Inner Triplet String, a 95-meter test stand that replicates the HL-LHC inner triplet region.

The system was cooled to 1.9 K and will be used to validate key circuits, including the inner triplet magnets and High Order Corrector circuits.

If commissioning succeeds, the hardware will be ready for installation in the LHC during Long Shutdown 3.

The test is an important milestone for the HL-LHC upgrade, which aims to deliver far more particle collisions and richer data.
