Rare 1,500-year-old warrior sword scabbard found under a fallen tree in Norway

A hiker in Sandnes, Norway, found a rare gold sword scabbard under an uprooted tree near Austrått.

Archaeologists say the heavily worn 6th-century artifact was likely intentionally buried as a ritual offering.

The find may have belonged to a high-status warrior leader during the Migration Period.

It is the first discovery of its kind in Rogaland and offers new clues about elite power and early warfare.
