Google making links in AI Mode and AI Overviews a bit more direct

Google is updating AI Mode and AI Overviews with more direct, contextual links inside generated answers.

The five changes include closer inline links, hover previews with page titles, highlighted subscription links, cited discussions and firsthand sources, and follow-up reading suggestions.

Google says the goal is to make AI answers easier to explore and give users clearer source context.

The updates could improve trust and discovery, but they may also affect publisher traffic and subscription visibility.
