China tests lunar soil fibers for future Moon base construction

China has begun long-duration space station tests of experimental fibers made from lunar soil.

The Donghua University team is checking whether the material can withstand vacuum and other harsh space conditions.

If successful, the fibers could help reinforce future lunar habitats and infrastructure.

The research could cut the need to launch construction materials from Earth, supporting long-term Moon missions.
