The grueling, 630-mile road race where the only fuel is sunlight

Dozens of Texas high school teams will race self-built solar cars in a five-day, 630-mile run from Fort Worth to Fort Stockton.

The Solar Car Challenge is in its 30th year after being founded in 1993 by educator Lehman Marks.

A new cruiser division has been added for four-seat solar vehicles.

The event gives students hands-on experience in engineering, budgeting, fundraising, project management, and vehicle testing.

It also highlights renewable-energy technology and STEM education in action.
