Google Photos power users are about to lose a major backup feature

Google will stop letting users add new Google Photos backup folders through the Google Drive desktop app on June 15, 2026.

Existing folder syncs in Drive will continue only until August 10, 2026, after which the feature will end.

Users are being pushed to the Google Photos website or web app instead.

The change removes a convenient PC-to-Photos backup path that many power users and camera owners rely on for large libraries.
