Pope Leo XIV to speak in his first encyclical about ‘protecting humans in the AI era,’ with Anthropic co-founder also attending the event

Vatican says Pope Leo XIV will publish his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, on May 25.

The document will address human dignity in the AI era, including AI’s use in war and its impact on workers.

The Vatican also plans to announce a committee to coordinate the Church’s response to AI.

The launch event will include the pope, cardinals, theologians, and Anthropic cofounder Christopher Olah.
