Microsoft's Surface RTX Spark Dev Box Will Handle Tougher AI Workloads

Microsoft unveiled the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a desktop AI machine for developers at Build.

It targets long-running training, agentic AI pipelines, and local model fine-tuning on Windows hardware.

The system uses NVIDIA’s RTX Spark chip, an embedded RTX Blackwell GPU, and up to 128GB of unified memory.

Microsoft says performance is comparable to an RTX 5070 laptop GPU, with a 100W thermal envelope.

Pricing has not been announced; it will ship later this year through Microsoft.com.
