National AI Computing Center to receive 'National Growth Fund' investment… boosting AI infrastructure

South Korea approved National Growth Fund support for a public-private national AI computing center, expanding domestic AI infrastructure.

The fund will also make a direct investment in AI startup Upstage, backing sovereign AI capabilities and model development.

Additional financing targets strategic projects in batteries, biotech, and semiconductor materials, including facilities in Saemangeum and other industrial sites.

The move is meant to strengthen supply chains, cut dependence on foreign chips and materials, and accelerate the government’s industrial policy push.
