Francisco Javier Rodríguez Marcos (AEMET): let's not kid ourselves, "temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above normal are going to continue"

AEMET says Spain’s June–August 2026 quarter is likely to stay very warm, with temperatures 5–10°C above normal in many areas.

The strongest anomalies are expected in northern Spain, eastern regions and the Balearic Islands.

June heat waves are becoming more frequent and intense; the late-June 2025 event lasted 17 days and hit 40 provinces.

Authorities warn early-season heat is especially dangerous because people are not yet acclimatized, so homes and routines should be prepared now.
