Samsung’s new silicon-carbon batteries in Galaxy Z Fold 8 won’t last as long

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8 are moving to silicon-carbon batteries, boosting capacity and real-world battery performance.

But EU EPREL filings show the cells are rated for about 1,200 charge cycles to 80% capacity, down from roughly 2,000 cycles on the previous generation.

Samsung says the design prioritizes safety and longevity while enabling thinner foldables and better battery capacity.

The shift marks a notable change in Samsung’s battery strategy and creates a new benchmark against rivals like Google Pixel and iPhone.
