Russia makes first 175 MW output reactor unit to power Leningrad nuclear icebreaker

Rosatom completed manufacturing and trial assembly of the first RITM-200 reactor unit for the new Leningrad nuclear icebreaker.

A second reactor unit is now in testing, bringing the Project 22220 vessel closer to installation and sea trials.

ZiO-Podolsk is also building more RITM-200 reactors for other icebreakers and nuclear uses, while RITM-400 units remain in production.

The work underscores Russia’s push to expand Arctic shipping capability and its marine reactor manufacturing base.
