Elon Musk wants any damages from his OpenAI lawsuit given to the AI company's nonprofit arm

Elon Musk amended his complaint to waive any personal share of the $150 billion in damages he is seeking.

If he wins, Musk says any awarded damages should be given to OpenAI's nonprofit arm rather than to him.

He is asking that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman be removed from the nonprofit's board if the suit succeeds.

Musk filed the lawsuit against OpenAI in 2024, alleging the group became a closed-source, de facto Microsoft subsidiary after dropping its nonprofit designation.

He claims that, as a co-chair and donor to OpenAI's founding group, the shift to a for-profit model defrauded him and that he or the nonprofit deserve part of the company's valuation.
